Support
Car Ledger runs on iPhone with iOS 18 or later. If something here does not answer your question, write to us — we read every message.
When you report a problem, it helps to include your iPhone model, your iOS version, the Car Ledger version from Garage → About, and what you did just before it went wrong.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add my first car?
On first launch the app offers to add a vehicle. Later, open Garage and tap Add vehicle. Name, make, model, year, plate, VIN and the current odometer are all optional except the name — fill in what you care about.
Can I keep more than one car?
Yes. Add as many as you like. On the Overview screen swipe the card at the top to switch between them; every log, reminder and document belongs to the selected car.
How do reminders work?
A reminder can be based on distance, on a date, or both, and the app shows how far along you are. If you allow notifications, Car Ledger notifies you a week before the due point and on the day itself. Distance-based reminders are projected onto a date using how much you have been driving, so keep the odometer up to date. Mark a reminder done and the app opens a pre-filled service record for it.
I am not getting notifications.
Check Garage → Settings, which shows the current notification status, and iOS Settings → Notifications → Car Ledger. A reminder must also be enabled and have a due point in the future.
How do I change units, currency or language?
In Garage → Settings: distance in kilometres or miles, volume in litres or US/UK gallons, consumption as L/100 km, km/L or mpg, plus a currency and the interface language (English, Russian or Ukrainian). Existing entries are converted for display — nothing is rewritten.
How do I attach photos and documents?
Service records and notes take photos from the camera or your photo library. Documents live on the vehicle card in Garage, sorted into manuals, registration, receipts, photos and other; a tap opens one straight away.
How do I back up my data?
Open Garage → Data → Back up all data (JSON). The app writes one file containing every vehicle, record, photo and document, and the share sheet lets you save it to Files, iCloud Drive or send it to yourself. Do this before changing phones, and from time to time in between.
How do I restore a backup?
Garage → Data → Restore from backup, then pick the JSON file. Cars are matched by their internal identifier, so restoring onto a device that already has the same car updates it instead of creating a duplicate.
Can I get my data out as a spreadsheet?
Yes — Garage → Data exports the service log, fuel log and oil log as CSV files that open in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets. The service screen also produces a PDF service history, which is handy when selling the car.
Is my data sent anywhere?
Not to us. Car Ledger has no account with us and no server of ours, and talks to nothing but iCloud: your records live on your iPhone and, if the phone is signed in to iCloud, in your own iCloud account. See the privacy policy.
Will my data sync to my other devices?
Yes, through your own iCloud account. If your iPhone is signed in to iCloud, your vehicles and their records sync automatically — set up a new phone with the same Apple ID and the history is already there. Nothing is sent to us, and you are never asked to create an account. If you would rather keep everything on the one device, turn Car Ledger off under iCloud in iOS Settings; the app carries on as normal. The JSON backup still works either way, for an archive you keep yourself.
Can I share a car with my wife or husband?
Yes. Open the car in Garage, tap Share this car, then Invite someone and pick them by Apple ID, e-mail or phone in Apple's own sharing sheet — there is no link you can just hand around, the invite is tied to that person. They see the car and its full history on their own device, and you choose whether they can only view it or add to it as well. The same screen lists everyone with access; remove a person or turn sharing off entirely whenever you like, and they can also leave on their own. Sharing needs both of you signed in to iCloud.
How do I delete something, or everything?
Swipe a row in any log, or open the entry and delete it there; a vehicle is deleted from the list in Garage along with its records, and the deletion syncs to your other devices. Deleting the app removes all of its data from the iPhone; to clear the synced copy as well, turn Car Ledger off under iCloud in iOS Settings and choose to delete the data, or remove it from iCloud storage management.
